Not a bad mask for the price

Posted by Coolhand on 12th Apr 2020

Purchased two of these in the early stages of "the great COVID-19 Panic of 2020." They were both sealed in their original plastic packing, and aside from the heavy surplus rubber smell, were in good condition. Finding filters for these will be an issue in the future, but will likely remedy this by purchasing an adapter to convert to NATO 40mm (Assuming there are any available post-COVID as they're non-existent these days). All in all, a good buy for money. Not on par with the Israeli masks, but decent.

Walked in to buy a few.

I walked into the brick and mortar store to buy one, found 3 new in the plastic and carry bags and 1 without the carry bag but a dollar cheaper. So I walked out with 4 total under $70 including taxes. I thought it was an excellent deal for my Bug out bags. They are all in B+ grade condition except the discount one I purchased that is in a C grade condition: minor discoloration and slightly scuffed lense rims (filter was sealed new) The other three I haven't opened up yet but look like new with new filters. Very happy with the store and purchase.

    Broken

I would love this gas mask if I did not receive it broken. The left eye piece was broken by obviously being smashed by the attached filter in shipping. Dear Major Surplus, don't ship masks with the filter on. And for extra safety bubble wrap the filter. It IS metal.

    Not factory sealed

Posted by Jimmy J on 1st Aug 2016

The mask and filter came in a canvas bag, with the filter preinstalled on the mask. They were not in the sealed factory bags however, and one of the anchors had ripped out of the rubber mask. This left a rip in the mask. The eyepieces were also heavily scratched, especially the metal rims where the paint had been completely scratched away. The filter was also scratched and damaged, but you probably wouldn't want to breathe from it even in factory condition due to materials like chromium and asbestos present in nearly all old gas mask filters. The bag also was stained with what looked like mud.
